Wings of Tatev

The Tatev Monastery Complex was an important medieval religious institution and defensive feature with a commanding position on the Silk Road. The monastery still plays an active role in the local communitys spiritual and social life and is one of Armenias most visited sites.

The quickest way to approach the monastery is with Wings of Tatev, the worlds longest reversible cableway. The ropeway connects the villages of Halidzor and Tatev in Armenias southern region of Syunik.

In addition to operating the ropeway, Wings of Tatev offers guided hikes to explore the monastery and its environs, and guides provide interpretation for numerous sites including the Tatev Monastery Complex, one of the oldest in Armenia, the surrounding landscapes of Syunik’s Vorotan Gorge, and the nearby abandoned villages of Old Khot, Old Shinuhayr, and Old Halidzor.
